Description

Robin Scott Sumey was arrested and charged by the Martinsville, Virginia, police with several counts of uttering and forging false checks. He filed a petition with the district court requesting that court to order his release from custody and enjoin further state proceedings against him. In support of his petition, Sumey alleged that his arrest was illegal, that he was not warned of his rights and the arrest warrants were not read to him, that he was coerced into confessing, that he was confined to a one-man security cell and subjected to harassing interrogation, and that he was coerced into accepting court-appointed counsel. The district court denied the petition, and Sumey appealed. We affirm.
